Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Our shop is heated and air-conditioned.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
We can run with up to 9 flat-rate technicians plus 4 apprentices.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Our shop is open Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Computers, diagnostic equipment, GM Special Tools.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have a locker room and lunch room for our employees.
How many bays does your shop have?
We have 18 bays in our main shop and 4 additional bays in our prop department including a new Hunter Alignment rack.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
We average from 800 to 900 repair orders per month.
What is your parts ordering process?
Our technicians work directly with our Parts staff to order parts.
What is your policy on side work?
We do not allow side work in our shop. We will allow you work on your own personal vehicles in our shop with a valid repair order.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We are a UAW Local 259 union shop. Most technicians have 2 lifts to work with and we also have tech apprentices that work with our flat-rate technicians to both learn and assist. We pay for all training both online and in class at our regional GM training facility and we also pay for your ASE training that is required by GM.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We pay for your training time, whether it be for taking your ASE tests or completing GM training classes online or at the GM Regional training center in Ardsley, NY.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
As a family owned and operated dealer with like to grow our employees from within. We have found some of our best employees that started in entry-level positions and have worked their way up the corporate ladder here in our dealership.
Can you describe your performance review process?
You will meet with our management staff on a regular basis to discuss your performance.
What type of safety training is required?
You will be required to complete safety training through the GM Center of Learning online.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
We hire tech apprentices to learn and work alongside our master technicians. They assist in all repairs in order to learn how to become a flat-rate technician
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We hire apprentice technicians from local schools and participate in local community events.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We work with our local BOCES high school and also with the GM ASEP automotive program at Suffolk Community College. We hire students as apprentices to work and learn with our master technicians. We have had multiple GM ASEP students start as apprentices and become A-Technicians over the years.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
We like to grow our employees from within and offer paid training along with hiring apprentices from local schools.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, we will speak with applicants on the phone before scheduling an in-person interview.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
You will meet with our Service Management staff for your interview
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We perform license screening and background checks on all prospective applicants.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
We will discuss your work history and test your knowledge.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Up to a week, depending on how long it takes for license and background screening.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Approximately 1 week, up to 2 weeks.
A & B Technicians
Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $1,100,000.00/year
As a UAW Local 259 shop we offer competitive wages and excellent benefits in a great working environment with a great team. A & B Technicians are required to complete ASE training and GM/Cadillac training. Production and efficiency bonuses are available.
