Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
The office where the service advisor is working has central heat and air conditioning. The service advisor is in control of the thermostat in the office. The shop is equipped with overhead infrared gas heaters. We keep it quiet warm in the winter. During the summer, each technician will have their own portable evaporator cooling unit to use.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
We like to keep two people working in the office to help customers, answer phones and manage parts. Ideally three to four people are working in the shop. From A technicians to clean up and shop maintenance people. Maximum is six employees.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
MWAC is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. NO WEEKENDS
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
MWAC provides the equipment needed for a professional technician to complete most any job. Multiple diagnostic platforms, special tools for gas and diesel engines. Heavy equipment such as press, welder, torch, transmission jacks. If we are missing something to complete a job it is sourced quickly. We also provide ALL tools and equipment needed for the lube tech/tire technician. No tools are required for this entry level position.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We offer a break room with central heat and air conditioning. There is also a private restroom for technicians to use in the break room. There is a toaster, toaster oven, microwave/freezer, fridge, and grill available for use as well.
How many bays does your shop have?
MWAC utilizes six service bays. There is one alignment rack (18k lbs.) and three 2 post lifts (one 10k lb. and two 12k lb.) 2 bays are left open. All the lifts where purchased new within the last several years.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
MWAC averages 200 cars/month
What is your parts ordering process?
Service advisors order the majority of our parts via the internet. We receive over five deliveries per day. Most vendors deliver multiple times and will hotshot parts to us if required.
What is your policy on side work?
MWAC does not have a policy against employees doing side work. No side work is allowed at the MWAC facility, and no parts can be ordered through any MWAC account. Work on your personal vehicle is allowed after hours.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
MWAC provides all the tools necessary for the lube/tire tech.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
MWAC offers paid training through multiple groups and associations. Such as MWAC, ASE, TechNet, Certified Auto Repair, VISON Expo. AVI, and AE Tools to name a few.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
MWAC offers serious opportunities to improve your position. Whether you are an entry level tech or veteran tech we want to see you move forward professionally and financially. As you complete training and gain experience you will be rewarded financially.
Can you describe your performance review process?
MWAC reviews the performance of the Service Advisor and all levels of Technicians weekly, monthly, and annually. We review car count, hours per repair order, dollars per repair order, vehicles worked on per week/day etc.
What type of safety training is required?
We like our technicians to have lift certification through ALI (Automotive Lift Institute), hazard material knowledge, and location of safety, medical and fire equipment at the facility.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
We like to see experienced techs teach/guide apprentice technicians. Lead technicians will give apprentice techs tasks during the repair process. The lead tech will watch over and offer guidance while the apprentice completes the task. Cleaning and organizing parts is also useful in helping the senior tech and teaching the apprentice proper procedure and nomenclature.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
MWAC is actively involved in Wellsville's Chamber of Commerce. We contribute to the local schools and try to recruit summer and after-school help through the H.S. program. We have been a part of Olathe Advance Tech. Ctr. advisory board for multiple years.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
MWAC has been a part of Olathe Advance Tech. Ctr. advisory board for multiple years. We have also worked with Wellsville High School and Neosho County Comm. College to hire interns from their automotive program.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
We can but it is not a required part of the process.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Very low-stress Q&A about the candidates work and personal history. We try identifying what the candidate and the other employees at MWAC would have in common or what might divide them. We want a new hire to be a great fit for everyone
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Yes
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Yes. We ask applicants to fill out our hypothetical questionnaire based on the position they are applying for. For example, a service advisors will write tickets and fill out an estimate. Technicians will identify parts and describe their function.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Every situation is different. Usually if MWAC is running an ad for an open position we are expecting to hire immediately. I would not expect the process to take longer than a week.

Service Advisor
Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00/year
Service Advisors are paid hourly and receive a bonus based on gross and gp%
General Service Technician
Pay Range: $15.00 - $21.00/hour
General Service Technician is paid on an hourly basis. They are also eligible for overtime. Current position averages 43-45 hours per week.
Service Technician
Pay Range: $30.00 - $40.00/hour
Service technicians are paid on a flat rate basis. Each tech is guaranteed 30 hr. minimum per week. Hourly pay rate may also be adjusted based on a scale of billable hours.
