Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Just heated at this time. During the warmer months in Wisconsin, there are plenty of fans and air flow to allow comfort.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

There are approximately 5-7 techs, 3 advisors, and a service manager. The parts team consists of a manager and a counter person.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours are Monday-Friday 7am-5:30pm. No weekends, no holidays.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Technicians are required to provide their own tools and toolbox. Kocourek will supply any OEM special tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

The breakroom is upstairs and has a refrigerator, microwave, and a pizza oven. There is plenty of room for you to enjoy your lunch in a quiet breakroom.

How many bays does your shop have?

10 bays are available

How many repair orders do you average per month?

900 repair orders!

What is your parts ordering process?

The parts are requisitioned out of Tekion, our DMS.

What is your policy on side work?

We conduct a monthly shop night to allow technicians to work on their personal projects.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer paid training and also offer tuition assistance.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

This can be found also in the compensation section. We have a technician growth path laid out for any technician, any level that joins the Kocourek team.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Kocourek has bi-annual reviews. These reviews are done in February and August.

What type of safety training is required?

All training is done with our online compliance dashboard. This training is completed within the 1-2 days of hire during onboarding.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our skilled technicians are paired with the mentee's while they learn the manufacturer and core competencies.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

One of our Core Values is Community in which we are grounded by everyone doing a little can accomplish a lot. We partner with our local technical college for the Nitro-X camp. This camp allows all kids to work on their very own remote-controlled race cars. We sponsored Wausau Kids Run and Bike Race over the summer. Kocourek proudly sponsors the Boys and Girls Club of the Wausau Area, by empowering young women to research different area businesses and careers that are offered for them.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Of course! We are active with our local technical college with our Lunch and Learn opportunities. We also participate in local job fairs that the local high schools attend.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes! The phone screen is about 10-15 minutes.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The in person interview is approximately an hour with the hiring service manager. Each manager reviews expectations of the shop and Kocourek's core values.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes, we require a pre-employment drug screen, and we do a motor vehicle record check.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No, at this time there is no skill assessment done for technicians.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Once the pre-employment screenings are completed and reviewed, the offer letter is sent to the candidate within 24 hours.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Our hiring process from application to hire is normally 7-10 days.

Tech Mentee Pay Range: $23,000.00 - $37,000.00/year ($11.06 - $17.79/hr)

As a Mentee technician you are partnered with an experienced mentor that will help you develop your skills and talent all while building your career at Kocourek. Plus, we offer an opportunity for tool and/or tuition reimbursement.

Bronze Certified Technician Pay Range: $26,000.00 - $60,000.00/year ($12.50 - $28.85/hr)

Bronze Certified: Training: web-based trainings completed. Core competencies: used car maintenance, maintenance repairs and light warranty work.

Silver Certified Technician Pay Range: $39,000.00 - $71,000.00/year

Silver Certified: Training required: All web-based trainings, start hands on training. Core competencies: Intermediate customer pay and intermediate diagnosis and repairs.

Gold Certified Technician Pay Range: $55,000.00 - $100,000.00/year

Gold Certified: Training Required: all franchise hands on training, start ASE certification Core competencies: all customer pay/warranty diagnosis and repairs.

Platinum Certified Technician Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $155,000.00/year

Platinum Certified Training required: maintains factory training level and ASE certified. Core competencies: any and all diagnosis and repairs.

Retirement Plan Offered
You are eligible to participate in Kocourek's retirement plan 1st of the month following 6 months of service. We have an aggressive match of 4% up to 8%.

Vacation Offered
Kocourek has a PTO (Paid Time Off) policy. The benefits of PTO are that it promotes a flexible approach to time off by combining vacation, sick and personal leave. Employees are accountable and responsible for managing their own PTO hours to allow for adequate reserves if there is a need to cover vacation, illness, appointments, emergencies or other situations that require time off from work. Additional PTO will not be granted, although unpaid leave may be granted depending on the circumstance. All regular full-time members are eligible for PTO.

ST / LT Disability Offered
All full-time employees are eligible to enroll in this supplemental insurance when you are eligible to join the group health insurance plan and as provided through our group insurance carrier. The cost of the supplemental insurance is paid by the employee. Please see the Human Resource Manager if you are interested in further information.
Life Insurance Offered
Kocourek offers an employer paid insurance with values as follows: Life and AD&D Insurance $20,000 Dependent Life Insurance $5,000 Spouse $2,500 Dependent Employees are also able to purchase additional life and AD&D Insurance when they are eligible for Kocourek's sponsored benefits.
Uniforms Offered
Kocourek has a uniform company that supplies uniforms for all service team members.
Other Offered
Wellness program to receive discounts on their monthly health premiums. Employees must participate in our annual on-site biometric screenings, complete a survey and then a coaching call to be considered for this benefit. The savings varies based upon the monthly premium amounts.
