Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
All shops are heated and air conditioned.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Entry level techs work in two person teams. All other tech positions are independant.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Service is open 7-7 Monday through Friday and 7-5 on Saturday. The tech hours will vary depending on position and schedule. Standard schedule is 8-6 M-F and 7-5 on Saturday, 5 days a week. Day off may vary depending on scheduling need.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Company supplied tool box and roll cart, oil and coolant drains, 2 Alignments racks, 4 tire machines, 4 tire balancers, 3 brake lathes, all Honda Special Tools, 7 A/C machines, 2 parts cleaners, spring compressor, transmission jacks, hydraulic engine/battery tables. Entry level Express techs do not need tools to start work with us. Express tools are provided.
What type of break room facility is provided?
Large break room with refrigerator, microwave, toaster, ice & water machine, vending machines, 85 inch TV.
How many bays does your shop have?
We have 3 separate shops with 53 lifts total. 49 standard lifts, 2 heavy-duty 12k lbs. lifts, 1 standard alignment lift and one heavy-duty 4 post alignment lift.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
About 2600-2700 CP RO's and 300-400 warranty RO's per month
What is your parts ordering process?
We try to stock as much as possible. If we dont have it in stock, we haven't sold it in the last 6 months. Most parts are ordered electronically through Reynolds and Reynolds DMS. Almost all parts are here next day if we dont already stock them
What is your policy on side work?
Some side work is allowed, but is limited to immediate family.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
Being part of the Hendrick Automotive Group, any ASE Master Tech can qualify for the Hendrick Engine Builder Showdown. The tech that qualifies receives all expense paid trip to Hendrick Motorsports in North Carolina where they compete with other techs to be the fastest time in building and running a NASCAR engine. https://www.hendrickebs.com/
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Yes absolutely. Training and growing your skills are very important to us. We offer company paid Honda training, NAPA training, as well as PACT training for the up and coming technicians.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Whether growing as a technician or growing into another position with in the dealership, growth is always encouraged. We have techs that started knowing nothing about cars and are now Honda Master techs. We have techs that are now Service Advisors and sales people. Our current Service Director is a Honda and ASE Master Tech.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We have a standard review every year.
What type of safety training is required?
Every 6 months all technicians participate in ongoing safety training.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
When an entry level tech is moved to an Intermediate Express position, they are partnered with a Honda Master Tech to help them learn and grow. The Master tech will help them with diagnostics and repairs to give them the skills to succeed as a repair technician.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We participate every year in the Hendrick Hunger Heros food donation. We also help support the local automotive programs, and some community support programs in the local area.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Yes. We sponsor tech to go to both Collin College automotive program as well as Eastfield College automotive program.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
We try to get creative in helping our employees. What works now may not in the future so we are always looking to be our best. Our company truly believes and operates on the fact that our employees are our greatest asset and we try help to them all grow whenever possible.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes if the applicant needs or wants to interview over the phone first. If they are not local, or are currently employed and can't leave work easily. We will make most arrangements available to make the process as easy as possible.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Most interviews are handled by the Shop Foreman or the Service Director. We like to get to know the person applying, what kind of background they have in the automotive industry, and get to know what type and level of skills they have.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We do perform a background check, drug test, and motor vehicle check. We also perform a personality test as part of MBS, Manage by Strengths, so that all of our employees can learn how to work in the best way with each other.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Generally we will determine skill sets in the interview. There is not a skill assessment test performed, but questions will be asked and possibly examples requested and given determine the level of skill the applicate has.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
We try to get back with any applicant within a few days after interviewing.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Generally the hiring process takes about a week to a week an a half. From the time of interview to the time of hiring, as long as there are no delaying's in processing items outside of the company. i.e. background check or drug test.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?
The sooner we can get an applicant working, the better it is for both them and us. Just like getting a car through the shop quickly for a customer to keep them happy, we try to make the hiring process quick and smooth.
Lube Technician
Pay Range: $17.00 - $18.00/hour
Flat rate pay plan
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $21.00 - $28.00/year
Flat rate pay plan + bi-weekly production and year end bonuses.
C Level Technician
Pay Range: $18.00 - $21.00/hour
Flat rate pay plan + bi-weekly production and year end bonuses.
Service Advisor
Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $110,000.00/year
Commission base pay plan with monthly bonuses.
Student Tech / Apprentice
Pay Range: $17.00 - $21.00/year
