What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday through Friday 7:30-5:30 - No Weekends!

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide all diagnostic tools, we have new alignment and tire machines. You will need provide your own hand tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We provide a full kitchen equipped with refrigerator, microwave and large table.

How many bays does your shop have?

Our shop has 11 bays

How many repair orders do you average per month?

On average we do 350 - 400 repairs per month

What is your parts ordering process?

We use an online ordering system and when we can we also source parts through local dealerships

What is your policy on side work?

Side work is allowed but technicians are responsible for payment of any parts

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We take pride in a fun and friendly work environment! Weekly meetings with lunch, birthday celebrations for employees and even Root Beer Floats in the afternoons on those hot summer days!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer online training courses and will reimburse any certifications earned. If necessary, we will send you to training and reimburse any expenses.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

For our business to continue to grow, we need to invest in you to grow. If you have career aspirations for growth as a technician or into a service advisor or manager - we'll work with you on it!

Can you describe your performance review process?

We do performance reviews yearly but will meet with you as needed. To grow as a team member, we will provide feedback as necessary to ensure you continue to fine-tune your skills to get better!

What type of safety training is required?

Safety is extremely important and we will walk you through all of our procedures upon starting with us.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have always been a grow your own type of shop. We attract local talent from community colleges and our techs take them under their wing. We spend a lot of time helping them out and applying what they learn in school to on the job.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We support our local schools in Mount Horeb as well as we support our trade industry by offering unique opportunities to educate our local area.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We support our local high school by engaging with the students to help them understand the career opportunities. Many of the students come visit our facility and we help support them in choosing a school to continue their education as well as offer tuition reimbursement and tools assistance. We believe investing in them young will benefit the technician and our company. We also partner with local community colleges at SWTC to help support their automotive programs.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Building and growing a shop as we can see in 2020 is unpredictable. What hasn't changed is our passion for the industry and commitment to being the best shop in the area. We'll continue invest in our technicians, help the community and grow organically. We want to grow our involvement with the tech community in the area and partner with companies like Find A Wrench to help our community see the future that automotive careers have.

Our community and customers are our top priority, we are thankful for them as well as our employees. We want what is best for our employees and will support them throughout their career.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We do have an application and it shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes to complete.

We would love to chat on the phone prior to interviewing you in person.

Our in-person interview entails sitting down and going through a list of question. We will also give you a tour of our shop and introduce you to our team.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $58,500.00 - $78,000.00/year

We pay based on experience as well as certifications. The more training and investment you put into yourself, we'll absolutely compensate you for!

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $52,000.00 - $58,500.00/year

We pay based on experience as well as certifications. The more training and investment you put into yourself, we'll absolutely compensate you for!

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $41,000.00 - $52,000.00/year

We pay based on experience as well as certifications. The more training and investment you put into yourself, we'll absolutely compensate you for!

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $29,000.00 - $41,000.00/year

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00/year

Bonus Pay is available for Service Advisors. We'll provide you with a competitive base salary as well as you have opportunity for bonus based on sales.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hour

If you commit to working for Helwig's, you will get not only a competitive hourly wage, but you will be reimbursed Tuition as well as Helwig's will provide your $5000 with tools with your commitment to work for Helwig's for 3 years after graduation. At that time, the tools will be yours!
