Our shop is located in an industrial park by the water that offers open breezes during summer months. It is not climate controlled but offers comfortable working conditions.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Join a team of 6-7 professionals at any given location! With over 10 locations nationwide, our team sizes vary, but you'll always have a strong, supportive crew working alongside you.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
We offer a favorable schedule with 1st shift only, 4-day workweeks, and the opportunity for overtime.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Our shops provide all diagnostic tools, large sockets, and specialty-required equipment—so you’ll have what you need for the job. Technicians supply their own hand tools and toolboxes, but with a $500 tool allowance, you can continue building and upgrading your personal toolset!
What type of break room facility is provided?
Take a break in our dedicated breakroom, equipped with a fridge for your personal food and drinks, a microwave for quick meals, and vending machines stocked with snacks to keep you going throughout the day!
How many bays does your shop have?
Our shop features four bays and is situated in a scenic industrial park by the water, providing refreshing open breezes during the summer. While it's not climate-controlled, the space offers comfortable working conditions year-round.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
The number of repair orders varies significantly each month, making it difficult to provide a precise figure. However, our shop maintains a steady workflow to keep our technicians engaged and productive.
What is your parts ordering process?
Our shop has a dedicated Parts Manager, while mechanics take responsibility for inventory control to ensure efficient parts management and availability.
What is your policy on side work?
Management approval is required before engaging in any secondary employment or external work activities.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
If you don’t already have your NY State Heavy Duty Inspection license, we’ll assist you in obtaining it. We also provide training, including heavy-duty brake courses and more.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
We prioritize internal growth, as demonstrated by our current shop manager, who was promoted from a shop lead role. For team members who join without NY Certification, we provide support in obtaining it and offer a $3 pay increase upon completion.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Annual performance reviews are conducted based on productivity and overall performance, with salary increases awarded accordingly.
What type of safety training is required?
Our team receives Hazmat training to ensure safety and compliance with industry regulations. Additionally, we prioritize keeping our equipment updated to maintain efficiency and support our technicians in delivering high-quality work.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our open floor plan and close-knit team structure ensure that senior technicians are positioned near newer team members, making communication easy and allowing for hands-on, in-the-moment training.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Every September, HEG hosts an annual End of Summer Fundraiser to support Make-A-Wish. We're always looking for ways to give back and strengthen our community because making a difference matters to us! (Go Bills!)
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Currently, we are looking at more opportunities to partner with schools in our community.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Our hiring process begins with a comprehensive pre-screening of candidates to evaluate their work experience, compensation expectations, skill sets, and availability. This ensures a strong alignment between the candidate and the position, leading to efficient and successful placements.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
A scheduled in-person interview provides candidates with the opportunity to meet the team and tour the shop, ensuring a strong cultural and operational fit.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Yes, we conduct a background check and schedule a DOT physical and drug screening as part of the hiring process.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
No, we do not.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
The team typically makes a decision within 24-48 hours. At HEG, we know finding the right workplace can be stressful, so we aim to provide applicants with an update within 1-2 days of their interview.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
We have a quick turnaround! Time is of the essence, so you can expect the entire process to take about a week from start to finish.
Diesel Mechanic
Pay Range: $25.00 - $33.00/hour
Mechanics can make $1,000-$1,320/week.
