Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated & well ventilated in the summer months.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Our service department emplyess 12-16 technicians, quality control driver to handle longer / multiple drive cycle road tests; 4 service advisors; service lane manager; 3 parts counter professionals; service and parts managers.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our service department is open 7:30am to 5:00pm. Techncians work 7:30am to 4:30pm OR 8:00am to 5:00pm. Saturdays 8:00 to 1:00pm. Our technicians work one of every 5-6 Saturdays, with the option to take the following Friday off.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Our shop provides PC's, service testbook/laptops; tire mounting & alignemtn machines; manufacturer-specific special tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our break and dreessing rooms are on the second floor near the workshop, and are heated and air conditioned.

How many bays does your shop have?

20

How many repair orders do you average per month?

600-1100

What is your parts ordering process?

Parts can be ordered through our internal MPI sysem or directly at our parts counter.

What is your policy on side work?

Employees may bring family members vehicles in to work on. Any work an employee does on his own time outside of our shop is the business of that employe, as long as it does not impare their work attendance.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Fields is a family-owned business that TRULY cares about ALL of their employees!!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Online training for all manufacturers is required for all team members. Flat-rate technicians are paid for their online coursework. Off-site factory training is paid for by the company including transportation, parking, meals, hotel, and airfare. Tehcnicians are compensated for their time away from the store.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Many of our employees have been with the company for 5, 10, 15 or more years. We have a large number of employees who started with us washing cars or doing office work, who re now in management positions.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We aim to review our technicians at least once a year for progress, but encourage any employee who wants to check in or who has a question or concern to voice it with our management team.

What type of safety training is required?

All employees are enrolled in the KPA training system for safety, handling hazardous materials, etc..

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We typically pair a newer technician with a more brand-experienced technician or with a shop foreman to learn the brand.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We patricipate in local charities, sporting events, music, and other community activities.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We encourage any of the local technical schools to contact us with any students who are looking for a future with a growing company.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We are looking to increase our business, our employee team, and our customer satisfaction.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We have an online application system that a prosepctive employee can fill out and attach resumes, certifications and other materials to.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We typically will do a 10-20 minute phone interview with most prospective employees before our in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our in-person interviews are often performed with one or more managers or the general manager. We will ask a number of questions to allow us to compare and assess our applicants on an even playing field. During our in-person interviews, we encourage our candidates to ask as many questions as they like. We are transparent with our customers and employees alike.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We will have a driver record and background check performed on any candidate we feel will be someone we will potentially make an offer of employment to. These records are only checked by our HR team, and the details are not shared with anyone else.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No, but we encourage our applicants to bring any materials with them to document their past work history.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

We typically make employment decisions within one to two weeks.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Our hiring process from beginning to end will take one to three weeks, depending on the schedule of the candidate.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

We are transparent in our hiring process. We never want to have the conversation that would entail our company or management misrepresenting hours, wages, benefits or any other concerns or opportunities that are presented to our prospective team members. A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $70,000 - $145,000/year

In addition to standard flat-rate pay, we also have additional tiered bonuses for productivity and a newly instituted yearly retention bonus. B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $45,000 - $70,000/year

In addition to standard flat-rate pay, we also have additional tiered bonuses for productivity and a newly instituted yearly retention bonus. C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $37,000 - $45,000/year

In addition to standard flat-rate pay, we also have additional tiered bonuses for productivity and a newly instituted yearly retention bonus. Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $18 - $23/hour
