Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

We have a 6 Bay heated shop with misting system used during the summer.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have 3 full time techs, Service/Parts manager, and 4 office personnel.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our shop hours vary slightly but are generally 7:00AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday ( NO WEEKENDS)

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We have wrenches and sockets above 1" hex size. We have 3/4", 1", 1.5" drive impact wrenches. Hydraulic hose cutter, crimper, parts washer, hydraulic press, blast cabinet, radiator tank, horizontal band saw, 16" chop saw, belt sander, bench grinders, drill press, HD fabrication table, torch sets, plasma cutters, welders, hot water pressure washer. 3 shop forklifts, one outside forklift, manlift, and compact tractor for cleaning the wash bay and emptying trash cans. Pullers, compression testers, gauges, etc.. Servious laptops for various different brands of service software.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a clean heated / air conditioned break room with refrigerator, microwaves, hot/cold water dispensers, DAK Board with weather, news, and scheduling. We bring in pizza once a month for everyone here. WIFI also available.

How many bays does your shop have?

Six plus a wash bay, fabrication area, and blast cabinet / radiator / cooler repair area.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Most of our work is done on equipment we own and not customer equipment although there is some. Pay is not base on repair orders and therefore is not a metric we track. Our techs are busy year round. Generally 45 hours a week +/-.

What is your parts ordering process?

Equipment is inspected for repairs prior to coming into the shop; we order any parts we are immediately aware of. We have a wash bay to use prior to working on the equipment. Upon bring the piece into the shop for repair many times a more thorough inspection reveals more and we order those items. We allow 2 bays per tech so that they can bounce between the two projects while waiting for parts. Parts are ordered by the parts manager.

What is your policy on side work?

As long as side work does not effect our business it does not bother us. If the work competes with us or causes techs to be tired / or late it could be an issue. Working on equipment that is older than we deal in or a different type than we deal in is not a problem.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have a hose crimper, fabrication area, blasting cabinet, and radiator tank. 3 shop forklifts, one outside forklift, and compact tractor for cleaning wash bay.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We will send techs to necessary training at our expense to improve and update their knowledge.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

There are always opportunities to earn more based upon your knowledge and efficiency. The more you know, the less assistance you require, and the more efficiently you can complete a job the more you are worth.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We watch how people problem solve, how attentive they are are work, how they work with others, and how timely they are; to look at their performance.

What type of safety training is required?

Forklift Safety training will conducted immediately after hiring. We will train you on all the safety protocols you will need to be successful in your job and safe in your work space.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our seasoned technician guide and help our newer technicians.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We donate to local charities.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We offer a program for techs starting out with an opportunity to grow in to a diesel technician within the company. We also have a program to earn your own tool set with no money out of your pocket.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We are constantly striving to grow.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We have simple 1 page application. Approximately 10-20 minutes to complete.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We make phone calls to make sure the candidate is a good fit for the job and we both have a good understanding of what is expected.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We go over what the position entails. Discuss strengths and weaknesses. Both the applicant and interviewers get a good feeling to how it would be to work together.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No we do not. We try to identify skill sets through the interview process.

Construction Equipment Service Tech Pay Range: $45,000.00 - $57,000.00/year ($21.63 - $27.40/hr)

We use straight hourly pay; no complicated pay schemes base on work orders, just get paid for the time you are at work! We also have a sales bonus that is equal to all employees here! This is a full time Position. Summary of Position: Diagnosis and repair of hydraulic, engine, transmission, and electrical systems on heavy equipment, generators, trucks, and components. No travel/roadwork; No on call time. 40-50 Hours a week. Normal Work Schedule: NO WEEKENDS Monday – Friday Hours 7:00AM-4:00PM Experience Required: 1 -2 year minimum of Automotive, Agricultural Equipment, Diesel, Heavy Equipment, Generator, or Hydraulic repair Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for troubleshooting, repairs and reconditioning of construction, generators, trucks, and related heavy equipment and components. Load or unload equipment or components from common carrier vehicles. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending training. Be able to Diagnosis issues and problem solve. Have basic math skills. Ability to keep track of work orders. Have basic welding skills. This job demands the ability to lift 60Lbs. Student Tech / Apprentice Pay Range: $17.00 - $18.00/hour
