Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated with infrared heaters and kept comfortable year-round. The office and employee area has both heat and air condition available.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Our team includes 7 people total: 2 Master technicians, 2 B/C Level technicians, 1 Service Advisor, 1 Service Manager, 1 administrative staff, and the owner.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We are open 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Friday. No weekends! Technicians must be ready to work by 8:00am, with normal working hours being 8:00 am - 5:00pm.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We have a brand new HawkEye Elite Alignment Machine, 1234yf A/C machine, new laptop for reprogramming vehicles, and a variety of other tools/equipment for all technicians to use.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a standard break room facility upstairs in our building, which includes a table, chairs refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven. There is also an employee restroom and locker room area.

How many bays does your shop have?

8 bays, which consist of the following 4 Rotary 9,000lb asymmetric lifts 1 Rotary 12,000lb 4 post lift with 2 rolling jacks and turn plates 1 Rotary 12,000lb 2 post Truck lift 1 New, Hunter 14,000lb scissor lift and Hunter Hawkeye elite aligner. 1 Bay with oil pit and tire lift.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

220-240

What is your parts ordering process?

Service Advisors and Service Managers order needed parts through a POS system online. Most parts can be overnighted if they are not in stock.

What is your policy on side work?

Staff can work on a personal vehicle only, with permission. Parts can be purchased for a personal vehicle at cost if paid for the day received. Discounts may be provided for vehicle work for family or friends.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have a close-knit, supportive team environment at our shop. We have regular bonding activities including going to Top Golf as a group and clay target shooting as part of a local fundraiser for Alzheimer's Association. We are in the process of planning a group camping trip for 2023!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, we encourage our staff to build there skills and take advantage of training opportunities. We encourage our techs to take advantage of CTI and WTI training (https://ctionline.com/), which is high-quality training offered through Advance Auto Parts, WORLDPAC, CARQUEST and Autopart International.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We always look to promote from within! We have had general service technicians be promoted to technician positions, along with A Level technicians be promoted to Shop Manager. We will help you develop your skills and move toward your desired career path.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Performance reviews are done at 90 days of employment, and will review processes and procedures to ensure they are followed, including the digital inspection process. The review will also be a time to discuss your goals and skill building opportunities.

What type of safety training is required?

Safety training is provided once each quarter as part of our shop group meeting.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have trained several younger technicians just out of high school or trade school to become C/B Level techs. We look to our seasoned techs to support and mentor newer techs whenever possible.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We actively engage with our local community. We support our local Wounded Warriors, Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, Cherry Creek Schools, Lets Shoot Out Alzheimer’s sporting clay event, Family Rescue Mission, and the Ihme Family Golf Tournament for the Children’s Hospital. Our owner is President of local non-profit Palomino Pals, providing recreational horseback riding to children with special needs. In addition, we sponsor 4 different high schools including their sports, theater, and marching band programs.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We work closely with Cherry Creek School District students looking to enter the automotive field and offer opportunities for students to join our team. We would be delighted to speak with other schools about partnership opportunities as well.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

Our shop has taken staff to ACDelco conventions in Las Vegas in the past as we are always looking to build knowledge in the industry! In partnership with Advanced Auto Parts, we took our staff to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands for a 4-day getaway and bonding experience. We hope to continue doing excursions that boost our knowledge and skills.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The first in-person interview lasts about 30-45 minutes and will be a conversation with the candidate about how the shop operates while finding out about their work experience, skills, and what they are looking for in a position. The second in-person interview will be with the owner and service manager, and be a time for the candidate to meet other staff and get a shop tour. They'll also have the chance to speak with staff and answer or ask questions.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We conduct a background check and motor vehicle record check

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We currently do not, but will verbally talk about the candidate's skills during the interview.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $62,400.00 - $90,000.00/year

Compensation is flat-rate and usually falls between $30-$40/hour. May depend on efficiency, ASEs/training, and years of experience. Bonuses available on a biweekly basis when technicians exceed 82 hours of production: Pay increases $1/hour if you reach 82 hrs Pay increases $2/hour if you reach 87 hrs Pay increases $3/hour if you reach 94 hours or above

C Level Technician Pay Range: $30,000.00 - $41,600.00/year

Compensation is hourly and usually falls between $14-$20/hour.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $41,600.00 - $62,400.00/year

Compensation is flat-rate and usually falls between $20-$30/hour. May depend on efficiency, ASEs/training, and years of experience. Bonuses available on a biweekly basis when technicians exceed 82 hours of production: Pay increases $1/hour if you reach 82 hrs Pay increases $2/hour if you reach 87 hrs Pay increases $3/hour if you reach 94 hours or above

Service Advisor Pay Range: $45,000.00 - $90,000.00/year

Compensation is hourly and may fall between $16-$24per hour, plus a weekly commission based on percentage of gross profit (after reaching a weekly set goal).
