Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated. Oregon doesn't really get hot enough for air conditioning.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have 25-30 techs on our team.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We are open 7-7 Monday - Friday and 8-4 on Saturday. Shifts are 4 10"S or 5 8's.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide special tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a big lunch room with refrigerator and TV.

What is your parts ordering process?

Electronic.

What is your policy on side work?

You must have an RO written.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are the busiest shop in the NORTHWEST! We are a family owned dealership group that treats our employees like family. We like to have fun while staying busy. 40% of our employees have been with Carr for 10 years or more!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer Subaru training and a wonderful internship program. We also pay for all ASE training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Many of our techs start as Car porters and are quickly moved into our lube department. If they find they like it, they are moved into our internship program in the main shop and work their way up until they reach Mast Tech status.

What type of safety training is required?

We do yearly safety training.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have Senior Shop Forman who mentor all young apprentices.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Carr Subaru gives to many charities in our community. The Oregon Humane Society, Albertina Kerr, The Child Center to name a few.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have a partnership with Subaru University at the local Community colleges to integrate their students into working at Carr.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We have outgrowing our shop and building new ones!

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

We are a great place to work!

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Our application takes about 15 minutes to fill out.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We do. Light screen to see if candidate would be a fit.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our service manager interviews our applicants and also our shop foreman's interview our applicants. If the service manager wants to move forward, the applicant is sent to the HR Director for the final interview.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We perform background checks, drug screen and driving screening.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

no.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

After meeting with the HR Director for the final interview, the applicant will know if he/she is proceeding further in the process.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $60,000 - $110,000/year

Flat rate.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $50,000 - $75,000/year

Flat rate.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $36,000 - $60,000/year

Flate rate.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $31,200 - $36,000/year ($15.00 - $17.31/hr)

Hourly.

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $50,000 - $110,000/year

Small salary, plus commission based on sales, plus CSi bonus.

Service Manager
Service Managers are responsible for management and overall health of the shop. Service Managers are typically focused on running an efficient shop that meets their financial goals. Other responsibilities can include staffing, performance evaluations, and financial analysis amongst many other responsibilities.
Pay Range: $100,000 - $150,000/year

Salary plus Department's Profit Bonus.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $31,200 - $42,000/hour

Collision Technician - A Level Pay Range: $60,000 - $150,000/year

Flat Rate,

Collision Technician - B Level Pay Range: $60,000 - $75,000/year

Flat Rate.

Collision Painter Pay Range: $60,000 - $150,000/year

Flat Rate.

Collision Prepper Pay Range: $31,200 - $50,000/year ($15.00 - $24.04/hr)
