What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Our team consists of 1 Shop Foreman, 2 Advanced Diagnostic and Repair Technicians, 10 Journey level Technicians, 11 Internal and Light Duty Technicians, Express Team Lead with 12 Express Technicians. Each of our 6 retail teams consists of 3 Technicians with a Service advisor. In addition, our Internal Team consists of 5 Technicians with 2 Advisors.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday thru Thursday 7:00am to 7:00p Friday 7:00am to 6:00 pm Saturday 7:00 am to 4:00pm Sunday Closed Shift times vary based on Technician classification.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Built in toolboxes, all Specialty Tools and OEM scan tools, Express Technicians are provided all tools necessary to complete the job.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Air conditioned with microwaves, vending machines, refrigerators/freezers, Toaster Oven, along with men's and women's locker rooms.

How many bays does your shop have?

35 plus a flush mount alignment rack.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We write around 4,000 repair orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Electronically and delivered to Technicians Bay..

What is your policy on side work?

We allow Technicians to perform work on their own vehicles.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

The Buerkle dealership family has been serving the Twin Cities area since 1953. We have a tenured service department that fosters a fun and knowledgeable experience. Annual summer and winter events for all employee, along with various recognition and celebratory luncheons throughout the year.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes! Being partnered with Honda allows us access to hundreds of web-based modules to ensure our team is as up-to-date as possible with manufacture training; we also utilize our shop foreman, advanced diagnostic and repair technicians, along with our express team lead technician to provide one-on-one mentorship and training to all technicians.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

From our entry level positions, to management positions, our team is lifetime career focused and work to ensure each of our employees have input and the understanding how to continue growing and if wanted adjusting their career patch with us.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have annual personalized reviews, monthly team reviews, all do discuss the performance and efficiency of each of our teams.

What type of safety training is required?

We utilize GMG Envirosafe for our annual Right-To-Know training, as well as holding monthly "toolbox talks" with applicable safety topics with our shop leadership.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

If you have interest in mentoring/training we provide the opportunity and compensate for your time invested; our Express lead starts with our entry level technicians on process and technique, and when those technician move to C/B/A level our senior and advanced diagnostic and repair technicians provide training and support as needed.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We have several different ways of volunteering through the VHEDC as well as Toys for Tots, along with our involvement in local High School and College events locally.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are involved with multiple high school and colleges in the area through events, advisory boards, career talks and discussions, as well as in-class training opportunities with students.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

Our team is career focused - whether you know where you want your career to take you, or aren't quite sure, we discuss opportunities with everyone and work with each individual to ensure they are achieving the success they want in their career.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, we perform phone interviews for all open positions prior to in-person interviews.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our goal is to be clear with position expectations and compensation, as well as getting to know the candidate as best as possible; this includes previous experience and knowledge discussions, along with personality questions. Our goal is to be transparent with our expectations of the position as well as ensuring the position is in-line with the career goals of the candidate.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes, a background and driving record check is performed.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Our skill assessment is completed after onboarding as each technician works directly with multiple senior technicians, prior to being inducted into the union.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Within one week of the in-person interview.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

At least 1 week from accepting an offer.

Our goal with any interview or hire is to be clear and transparent about our company, expectations, and the career; if we hire, we want this to be the last interview that you have.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $14.79 - $17.40/hour

Lube technician is our entry level technician job starting at the union guarantee.

Light Duty/Internal Technician Pay Range: $19.43 - $31.32/hour

Light Duty/Internal Technician rates start at a union guarantee and top out at the earned effective rate of pay - based on performance

Apprentice Technician Pay Range: $22.54 - $27.11/hour

Apprentice Technician rates start at a union guarantee and top out at the earned effective rate of pay - based on performance

Journey Technician Pay Range: $28.18 - $47.55/hour

Journey Technician rates start at a union guarantee and top out at the earned effective rate of pay - based on performance

Advanced Diagnostic Repair Technician Pay Range: $30.18 - $52.47/hour
