Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Our shop at Audi of Wallingford is both heated and air-conditioned.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
The shop works as individuals. We are a smaller-sized shop and do not use teams.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
We are open for service from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays. We rotate technicians on Saturdays, and all technicians are full-time. We stagger shifts in the shop to ensure coverage during our hours of operation.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
We provide all specialty tools needed, including scan tools.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have a break room/kitchen area with a sink, refrigerator, and microwave available for employees' use.
How many bays does your shop have?
We have eight bays, plus an alignment rack in its own bay.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
Approximately 300–350 repair orders.
What is your parts ordering process?
We order everything through our parts distribution system.
What is your policy on side work?
We don't allow side work. However, you can work on your own vehicle or a family member's vehicle after work hours. We designate one night a week in the shop for that.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Yes. Once hired, Audi provides ongoing web-based training as well as a program called Fast Track. This program requires technicians who are not already trained in the product to complete a two-week onboarding process.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Technicians typically start as apprentices and can advance to lead technician roles based on their ability and experience.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We conduct a 90-day review followed by yearly reviews or sooner, depending on performance.
What type of safety training is required?
We provide basic PPE to all technicians.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our shop foreman or an A-level technician will work with new techs during the trial period or longer, depending on their progress in training.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We sponsor local road races and community events.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Yes, we collaborate with Lincoln Tech and have hired a few technicians from the program in the past.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, we speak with all applicants before bringing them in for an interview.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
We discuss the applicant’s training and experience, as well as any schooling they have completed. We also review our operations at the dealership.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We conduct background checks for insurance purposes and require a pre-employment drug screening before hiring.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
No, we do not perform any skill assessments prior to hiring.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Usually no longer than a few days.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
After the interview, we typically inform candidates within 24 hours whether they will be invited back for a second interview or if we are moving in a different direction.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?
A newly hired technician will be paired with a senior tech in the shop, depending on their skill level. The new tech is then evaluated after 90 days.
SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Pay Range: $20.00 - $40.00/hour
We are a flat-rate shop, and pay is based on experience. The amount listed does not necessarily apply to every technician we hire. Hourly rates may vary, depending on the technician's level of ability. Technicians typically start as apprentices and can move up based on their ability and performance.
