Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated and air conditioned year-round.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have a 16-bay shop that currently employs 12 technicians. We also have five service advisors, four valet/porter staff, a shuttle driver, a BDC, a receptionist, and of course our sales team, parts team, and office team.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our service department is open Monday through Friday, 7:30AM - 6:00PM. Technicians are scheduled 8AM - 5PM Monday through Friday. We will be offering Saturday service hours soon, and will be encouraging technicians to transfer to a four-day-week at ten hours per day.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All special tools are provided by Audi and VW. Apprentice technicians do have an in-house provided tool program.

What type of break room facility is provided?

There are several break rooms available in the store, each equipped with the amenities needed to enjoy your break and lunch periods.

How many bays does your shop have?

16 main bays, one alignment rack, two wash bays, and two extra bays in our second building.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

500-700 ROs per month depending on the season.

What is your parts ordering process?

Our award winning parts department personnel work closely with technicians to order parts electronically or at the counter.

What is your policy on side work?

Side work is fine outside of normal business hours, and so long as you are accompanied by another employee for safety reasons.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Audi Glenwood Springs and Glenwood Springs Volkswagen partner with VW Group of America to provide ongoing training throughout your entire career; beginning with Fast Track in-person, paid training for technicians at one of Audi or VW's regional training facilities.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Almost all of our technicians and advisors came from another role within the store. We encourage promoting within. So it's good to get your foot in the door at entry level if you're not quite ready for a technician or advisor role.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We meet with our staff and management team yearly to perform a review regarding what practices each of us should start, stop, or continue.

What type of safety training is required?

Safety training is required for all associates. Safety training includes, but is not limited to, Personal Protective Equipment training, Associate Safety Certifications, Defensive Driving, Lift Safety, Powered Industrial Trucks Safety, etc.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a robust mentor program that each of our Master trained Audi and VW technicians participate in throughout the year with each and every one of our apprentices.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Sonic Automotive partners with our local and national communities to offer community service and outreach.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We currently partner with Glenwood Springs High School and Colorado Mountain College.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Not unless the applicant requests. I like to just bring applicants in directly.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We talk about your life, your goals, your career, and see if you would be a good fit for us, and if we would be a good fit for you.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Background check and drug screening are required during hiring process.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

An assessment is requested when first applying to open positions.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Same-day or next in almost every scenario.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Usually plan on a total of two weeks depending on how quickly the applicant gets their drug screening done and background results back.

Automotive Technician Pay Range: $23.00 - $50.00/hour

Automotive technicians work on a flat-rate hour system.

Service Advisor Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00/year ($28.85 - $48.08/hr)

Service advisors work on a 100% commission basis with incentives for positive customer service scores.
