Under The Hood
Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Our shop is both heated in the winter and has A/C in the summer. we have speed doors at all entrance and exits to regulate the temperature.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
You would be working with 11 Flat rate Technicians, 2 Hourly technicians, and 3 apprentice technicians.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Shop hours are from 8-5 Monday through Friday. 8-4 on Saturday. Saturday is a rotating schedule. there is a 1-hour lunch 12-1.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
We provide high-end tool boxes and have every special service tool required by the manufacturer. Additionally, we have the best equipment in the industry. IE tire machine and alignment machine. We also offer toll allowances.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have a luxurious kitchen/lounge with comfortable leather chairs and couches, refrigerator, stove, and microwave. Pub tables/chairs as well as a flat screen TV on the wall Full-scale locker room next to the lounge for all technicians
How many bays does your shop have?
Our shop has 25 lifts and a few flat stalls
How many repair orders do you average per month?
We average about 1200 repair orders per month
What is your parts ordering process?
We use an electronic RO system through Reynolds Ignite. Advanced Service
What is your policy on side work?
We have Thursday night every week dedicated for shop night. Technicians are able to work on their vehicles at the end of the day
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We have two working shop foremen that both finished in the top 10 Audi Twin Cup Challenge this past year so guidance and assistance is always available. We do not work as teams but individually with one central dispatcher. New and used car work is spread out to all the technicians and not to a prep team. We have a full gym and shower for the employees on site.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We offer on-the-job training via our two-shop foreman. We also send all technicians to Audi manufacturer training and pay their weekly average if they are a flat rate for all off-site training. We pay for registration and testing for any ASE course our technicians want to attain.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
We take great pride in promoting from within and have done so repeatedly throughout our existence. If you are a forward thinker and the right candidate for a position we will offer it to the existing staff first.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We do a yearly performance review on every associate in January
What type of safety training is required?
we follow all of OSHA standards and training guidelines
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
We have a three-step training process that has a proven success rate. First step apprentice tech is paired with a master tech to work with on every job together. The second step is on your own lift with the foreman guiding you. The final step is a flat rate still with the guidance of the shop foremen
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We donate to all of our local charities also the local Police Dept, Fire, and EMS We are partners with all local auto schools and programs including but not limited to Brookdale College, Middlesex County Magnet Schools, UTI, and local high schools as well where we spend time assisting them all in a variety of ways
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
we are partnered with all of the local l Vo Tech schools and go onsite and talk about our program. We have schools tour our dealerships annually to see what a career in this industry can provide
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
The Ray Catena Auto Group was named Magnet Schools Business Partner of the Year winner for 2023 and Brookdale College Scholarship Bash honoree for 2025 for all the work we do for their auto programs
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
We can if necessary make it easier for the candidate but prefer in-person meetings
What do your in-person interviews entail?
The In- Person Interview entails a one-on-one with the Service Manager and a shop foreman. We go over job descriptions and expectations if employed with us. We also give a tour of the shop and facility and introduce a few other technicians to them
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We perform criminal background and drug screening if offered a position of employment
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
We do not use a skill assessment
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
It usually takes about 1 week for us to make a decision and we let all applicants know either way.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
It takes about 1 to 2 weeks

Pay Range: $22.00 - $40.00/hour
