What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
18 journeymen 10apprentice 11 service consultants 1 shop foreman 1 service manager 1 service director 8 parts staff 8 members in the BDC and 30 car porters
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Monday through Thursday 7am to 8pm, Friday 7am to 6pmn & Saturday 7am to 4pm. Shifts mainly 7 to 4 however I do have a few 9 to 6, 5 days a week Saturday employees get a weekday off
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Required tools from the manufacture and general shop equipment. Individual tools must be supplied by the technician
What type of break room facility is provided?
2 refrigerators a coffee/tea machine (free to the employees) multiple tables and chairs which is where we host monthly technician meetings
How many bays does your shop have?
22 in the main building 6 in the building next door and 5 in another building basically for used car reconditioning, and three stalls in the same building but a different room set up for working on electric vehicles
How many repair orders do you average per month?
2200
What is your parts ordering process?
Once the customer approves the repair the service consultant will share this with parts and the technician to proceed with the order, we include the technician in effort to assure parts orders everything down to a seal.
What is your policy on side work?
All work comes through the shop on a repair order, no side work allowed except working on personal vehicle
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We supply the toolboxes, cabinetry, computers and have the shop cleaned every night. We assure all employees are 100% certified before the end of each year so all training required we support
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Absolutely we require every technician to complete all necessary web-based training as well as classroom training all through Audi
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Whether you hire on as a technician or in another position we promote growth from within, i have a number of employees that started in entry level positions and have grown into positions such as technician's, parts countermen, salespeople, and so on.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Annually we discuss the previous year's strengths and areas of opportunity however throughout the year there are one on one discussions, but these are more of educating on situations and how to handle unusual circumstances in effort to promote more efficiency and a better job performance all the way around

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Apprentice work directly with a journeyman for the first 6 to 12 months to assure proper processes are followed and to get a feel for the individuals talent level. Even the younger journeymen interact with the majority of the technicians in effort to learn different thought processes and minimize wasted time when they have so much knowledge at their fingertips
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
I am on the board with College of Lake County, so I attend career day for the students in college as well as the high school trade program they offer. I have 8 technicians I have recruited over the years that came here from CLC and started as apprentice
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
College of Lake County I work with and allow internships during spring in effort to guide the younger generation into our business whether in the technician capacity or somewhere else they can accel.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
We take each individual and work very hard at having them work with the right individuals that will nurture their development and help them achieve their potential. It is extremely important to us that we are completely satisfied with an individual's preparation before moving them to the next level we truly do all that we can to help every employee become a success story
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, however I reserve my opinions until I meet a person face to face
What do your in-person interviews entail?
I start by giving a background of who we are and what we stand for and then I will start with questions about previous jobs and allow them to tell me their story before we get into how we operate and the benefits when you become a member of our family
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Background checks as they apply, no drug screening but we do a background check
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
I include my shop foreman and master level 5 technician during interviews in effort to ask questions about their ability to determine our opinion of their skill level
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
2 to 4 days
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
That can range due to the background check but normally within 2 days however a week can happen
Journeyman technician
Pay Range: $34.00 - $42.00/hour
flat rate hourly wage up to 40 hours and 2 dollars in addition for every hour booked over 40 hours
