Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop provides heat and air conditioning.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

45 techs, 10 advisors, 2 janitors, 10 porters, and all other support staff.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday 7:30am-6:00pm Tuesday 7:30am-6:00pm Wednesday 7:30am-6:00pm Thursday 7:30am-6:00pm Friday 7:30am-6:00pm Saturday 8:00am-4:00pm Sunday CLOSED

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All special tools and all toolboxes.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a lunchroom in the shop with vending machines, microwaves, toasters, a sink, cable tv and filtered water. We have another large lunchroom that is newly rebuilt with the same amenities.

How many bays does your shop have?

44

How many repair orders do you average per month?

2000 with an even split of warranty to customer pay. Many other shops run 2 to 1 warranty to customer pay. We are 1 to 1 warranty to customer pay.

What is your parts ordering process?

Ordering is all done electronically through our communications vendor Dealerlogix. Parts will be received as soon as possible for technicians to complete repairs

What is your policy on side work?

You may work on yours and your immediate families cars with a repair order opened by management.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

This is a team that gets along great and is always there to help each other.

Top Shop Challenge: How are you planning to support your team’s professional development in 2025?

Audi Central Houston and our parent company Sonic Automotive are fully engaged in training. We pay techs for their online training here or at home as well as pay while out of town at hands on training at Audi technician training facilities as far away as California, Massachusetts or Audi headquarters in Michigan.

Top Shop Challenge: What are a couple of things you'd like to highlight that happened last month?

We ended the busiest month of the year with 42 techs and 3 shop managers. We have 5 in express lube, 3 trainees and the rest full line techs. We flagged 5627 hours in December and wrote 2097 repair orders. Techs received their annual longevity bonuses which is always a great time of year. This is based on annual hours flagged and years of service.
