Heated, not air-conditioned.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
There are currently 4 full-time Service Technicians, 1 Youth Apprentice, and 1 Service Manager in the Truck Shop.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Shop hours are 6:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday. Shift would be an 8 hour day during normal business hours.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Alsum Transport will provide all specialty tools; Technician's are required to have a basic set of hand tools.
What type of break room facility is provided?
There is a break room in the shop with a fridge, freezer, AC, microwaves, pizza ovens, and TV.
How many bays does your shop have?
We have 4 bays for repair and 1 wash bay.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
About 30.
What is your parts ordering process?
Discuss with the Service Manager or our Purchasing Department.
What is your policy on side work?
Discuss with the Service Manager prior to work, but most will be allowed.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We do provide opportunities for continuing education to our employees if they are interested. We have sent technicians to training depending on the needs.

Can you describe your performance review process?
We have an annual performance review for each of our employees in July/August of each year. If support is needed to improve, they will make a plan at that time. If the technician is excelling in their efficiency, their supervisor will help set goals to help with future growth. This performance review will often come with a wage increase.
What type of safety training is required?
We have various safety training videos that we assign throughout the year in our HR/payroll system called Paylocity. Each employee is assigned roughly 10 videos to start and there are monthly refreshers required for each employee.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our technicians have a wide variety of skillsets and are oftentimes working independently. There are times where the team works together as well. In the last few years, we have had a Youth Apprentice from a local high school that is interested in the diesel mechanic field. You could act as a mentor to our Youth Apprentice.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Alsum is a proud supporter of community and charity from food pantries, church, and school fundraisers as well as co-branding with winning teams to promote fresh produce consumption.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We work with the Youth Apprenticeship program which gives high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore their chosen career path, and helps us as an employer develop a qualified and committed workforce. We also participate in our local tech college as well as high school career and job fairs.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, we do phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
A tour of the shop and a conversation with the Service Manager and Human Resources. You're interviewing us as much as we're interviewing you, so we want to answer any questions that you may have as well.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We do require a pre-employment drug screening.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
We do not perform a skill assessment before hiring. Skills are discussed during the interview process.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Once an in-person interview is completed, you can expect to hear from us within a week.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
It depends on interview availability, but usually 2-3 weeks.
Service Technician
Pay Range: $28.00 - $30.00/hour
Hourly rate can vary based on experience, performance, and efficiency. Quarterly attendance bonus is available.

- Alsum provides all full-time employees (and your spouse and/or dependents) the choice of 4 medical plans administered by Dean - Alsum covers roughly 75% of the premium cost. Alsum offers a medical plan that features an HSA - the High Deductible Health Plan. An HSA is an investment tool available where the money you save goes in tax-free, earns interest tax free and can be spent on qualified health care expenses tax-free. You are eligible for these the first of the month following 60 days of employment. We also offer a free annual health screening to all employees.

- Alsum offers a dental plan administered by Delta Dental of Wisconsin. You are eligible for this the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
- Vision Insurance Offered
- Alsum provides vision care administered by Superior Vision. You are eligible for this the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
- Retirement Plan Offered
- Alsum currently matches forty cents ($.40) for each one dollar ($1.00) the employee contributes up to five percent (5%) of his or her eligible wages. New employees becoming eligible for the plan will automatically be enrolled into the plan at a two percent (2%) rate unless they choose to opt out or increase prior to their first eligibility date. The entry dates are January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st. Participating employees are entitled to the Company’s match and profit sharing deposit when they have completed one (1) year of service and 1,000 hours of service, in the plan year. Profit sharing, if any, will be deposited into the 401K Plan based on the eligible wages of each employee that has met eligibility requirements.

- The company observes and allows time off with pay for the following holidays: • New Year’s Day • Memorial Day • Independence Day • Labor Day • Thanksgiving Day • Christmas Day Hourly employees become eligible after they have been actively with the company for 90 calendar days.
- ST / LT Disability Offered
- Your short term disability coverage begins paying you on the 1st day if it’s an accident and the 8th day if it’s an illness. IT will pay you 60% of your pre-disability earnings to a cap of $500 per week. This benefit will pay for a period of up to 26 weeks. Long term disability is a voluntary coverage that begins when the short term coverage ends. This benefit will pay 60% of your pre-disability earnings to a maximum of $5000 per month. IT begins after 180 days of disability and will pay for a period up to age 65. You are eligible for this the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
- Life Insurance Offered
- Alsum provides all benefit eligible employees with a basic life insurance amount of $10,000.This is paid for by the company. Employees have the option of enrolling in additional voluntary life insurance in increments of $10,000 up to five times your annual earnings. You can also cover your spouse in increments of $5000 up to 50% of whatever it is you choose for yourself. Your children can also be covered for $10,000.
- Uniforms Offered
- Each new Service Technician will be given 12 shirts and pants, 3 sweatshirts, and 2 jackets. Any part-time mechanics will be given 5 shirts and pants, 1 sweatshirt, and 1 jacket. Company uniforms become the responsibility of the employee for maintenance and care upon issue. If the uniform needs to be replaced, employees will be required to return the uniform in exchange for a replacement.
- Other Offered
- Each Service Technician is given a $50 per month tool reimbursement. Each Service Technician is eligible for a $500 quarterly attendance bonus. We have a free onsite Fitness Center which is available to employees and their families.
