Field Service Apprentice
The Field Service Apprentice Technician will work under the direct Supervision of experience/qualified Field Technician and will be trained to accurately troubleshoot and diagnose diesel equipment problems, and to maintain, recondition, repair and service Caterpillar heavy equipment and components until the completion of 12 months. At which time, the candidate will have demonstrated the ability to understand electrical, hydraulic, mobile HVAC, diesel engines and power train fundaments and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Represent Blanchard Machinery by consistently exhibiting a professional supportive and courteous manner, arriving on time, and communicating and interacting with fellow employees, customers, and management throughout the repair process.
- Learn to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair of all types mechanical and hydraulic- and diesel-powered equipment, including diesel engines, transmissions, drive train components, winches, high pressure pumps, centrifugal pumps, air compressors, microprocessor controls, electro-mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, gearboxes, PTO's, 12/24v electrical systems, equipment cabs and controls, chassis and suspension, A/C systems etc.
- Learn to inspect and test equipment for proper operation.
- Learn to install and/or repair new or reconditioned parts.
- Learn how to utilize diagnostic equipment and systems to assist in repairs.
- Learn to maintain service trucks and all equipment on the service truck.
- Represent Blanchard Machinery by consistently exhibiting a professional supportive and courteous manner, arriving on time and communicating with the customer throughout the repair process.
- Accurately complete paperwork, including parts requisitions/returns, timecards, and service reports.
- Accurately complete service reports, work orders, documenting diagnosis, repairs performed and other pertinent information.
- Accurately completed parts lists and timecards in timely manner
- Operate heavy equipment/construction machinery.
- Follow all work safety rules and procedures and PPE requirements.
- Other duties as necessary and/or assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of Mechanical or Diesel Vocational Technology program preferred.
- 1 year of heavy equipment experience preferred.
- Previous experience on CAT equipment is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to learn.
- Ability to read and comprehend operating and maintenance service manuals.
- Ability to work all shifts and overtime including weekends to meet customer needs.
- Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills required.
- Possess strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to set and keep priorities and be able to handle stress associated with a fast-paced environment and deadlines.
Working Conditions
- The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside (non-climate controlled) and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials.
- Job requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting.
- Physical use of a broad variety of tools and machines in order to maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Must be able to lift varied weight.
- Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
- Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
