Collision Painter

Position Summary:

Prepares paints to the desired color while complying with all laws and regulations. Paints vehicles to restore them according to specifications. 

Essential Job Functions: 

•Operates and uses all body shop equipment properly & safely. 

•Removes rust from metal, plus grease and dirt from work surface. 

•Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated. 

•Mixes paint according to specifications. 

•Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color. 

•Paints surface using sprayer or brush as appropriate. 

•Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags, and unpainted areas. 

•Maintains own tools and keeps equipment clean and in proper state of repair. 

•Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer. 

•Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management. 

•May be exposed to toxic chemicals and moderate noise levels. 

•Complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. 

Knowledge and Skills:

•Must enjoy working on trucks, be mechanically inclined, and find satisfaction in repairs. 

Education and Work Experience:

•High School Graduate or GED. 

•Valid driver's license with good driving record. 

•Body Shop and/or vehicle prepping experience preferred. 

•One year experience in automotive painting required. 

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions. The most level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

Physical Effort:

Work is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals. Manual dexterity, repetitive motion tasks. Moderate noise levels present. Respirators or other protective equipment may be required. Must be able to: 

•Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time. 

•Visually inspect small defects and/or small parts. 

•Operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment and tools; determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work. 

•Demonstrate the ability to hear and accurately interpret mechanical, technical and business information in an environment subject to noise, vibrations, etc. 

•Perform all work safely in a fast-paced work environment.
