Collision Prepper

SUMMARY 

 

Responsible for preparing repaired vehicles for refinish and assisting painters with their work. Prepares vehicles and parts for painting, using proper techniques, equipment, and tools.  Assists in the smooth flow of work through the shop. The painter assistant/prepper is to provide his/her own hand tools and mobile tool cabinet.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Masks vehicles for painting.

Primes vehicles and parts.

Sands vehicles and parts prior to painting.

Reviews all work with the painter.

Accounts for time spent on each job each day by recording it on a labor control sheet or timecard.

Keeps painter aware of work status.

Alerts the painter to any unusual problems or additional work needed on a vehicle.

Assists the painter as necessary. 

Assists with diagnosis of difficult and unusual malfunctions.

Performs requested labor operations using recommended procedures, tools, and equipment.

Documents work performed and applicable technical information.

Notes additional needed work and obtains approval before proceeding.

Cleans all parts that have been worked on and keep vehicles clean.

Maintains work area in clean and safe condition.

Maintains housekeeping in shop and/or lot, and organization of personal work stall.

Maintains mix room, prep stations, booths, and equipment.

Sweeps paint shop and removes trash at end of shift.

Cleans and details vehicles.

Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, safety glasses, and hearing protection in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
