Service Advisor

The Automotive Service Advisor serves as the primary liaison between customers and the service department. This role is responsible for understanding customer needs, providing accurate service recommendations, coordinating repairs and maintenance, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the service process. A successful Service Advisor combines technical knowledge with outstanding customer service and communication skills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers in a professional and friendly manner upon arrival

  • Listen to and document customer concerns and vehicle issues accurately

  • Clearly explain recommended maintenance and repair services

  • Prepare and present repair estimates, obtain customer authorization, and communicate timing expectations

  • Coordinate vehicle check-in and check-out processes with service technicians and parts staff

  • Keep customers informed throughout the service process, including updates on diagnostics, repairs, and completion times

  • Review completed work orders with customers, answer questions, and ensure satisfaction

  • Follow up with customers post-service to maintain long-term relationships

  • Maintain accurate service records and customer information in the dealership’s management system (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds)

  • Collaborate with the service team to meet department goals and performance metrics


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate’s or automotive trade school degree preferred)

  • 1-3+ years of experience as a service advisor, customer service representative, or related role in the automotive industry

  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems and terminology

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with dealership management systems and Microsoft Office

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record


Preferred Attributes

  • ASE Service Consultant Certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Experience working with high-volume or multi-brand dealerships

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

  • Strong sales and upselling skills
