B Level Technician
Job Summary: The B-Level Auto Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of vehicle maintenance and repair tasks, including diagnostics, routine services, and minor to intermediate repairs. This role requires a good understanding of automotive systems and the ability to work independently on everyday repair tasks while continuing to develop more advanced skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and troubleshoot vehicle issues, focusing on common problems related to engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
- Repairs: Perform repairs on vehicle components such as brakes, exhaust systems, suspension, steering, cooling systems, and more. Replace worn or damaged parts and ensure proper installation.
- Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular vehicle maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and filter replacements.
- Inspections: Perform vehicle inspections to identify potential issues and recommend necessary repairs or preventive maintenance to customers.
- Technical Skills Development: Continuously improve technical skills by learning from senior technicians, attending training sessions, and staying updated on the latest automotive technologies.
- Customer Communication: Communicate with customers regarding the nature of repairs and maintenance services, providing clear explanations and answering any questions.
- Documentation: Accurately document all services performed, including parts used, labor hours, and any recommendations for future maintenance or repairs.
- Quality Control: Ensure that all work meets the shop's quality standards and that vehicles are returned to customers in safe and reliable condition.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: Typically 2-4 years of experience as an automotive technician, proficient in performing routine maintenance and common repairs.
- Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications in relevant areas (e.g., brakes, suspension, electrical systems) are highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of automotive systems and components, including engines, transmissions, braking, and electrical systems.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve typical vehicle issues efficiently.
- Attention to Detail: Careful and thorough in performing repairs and documenting work to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Communication Skills: Capable of effectively communicating with customers and team members.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy parts, work in various positions, and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with a variety of vehicle makes and models.
- Ongoing training or pursuit of additional certifications in automotive repair.
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically performed in a service bay or repair shop.
- Exposure to noise, heavy machinery, and automotive fluids.
- Protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection are required.
