Experienced Heavy Equipment Technician

Location: Willmar

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various types of agricultural machinery. This position requires a hands-on approach and a commitment to ensuring that equipment is operating at peak efficiency to support our agriculture and light construction customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of farm machinery, including tractors, combines, sprayers, planters, harvesters, balers, and other heavy equipment.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, hydraulic system servicing, and filter replacements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, and schematics to accurately complete repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and service schedules.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior technicians on the proper use repair and diagnostics of machinery.
  • Communicate effectively with service management regarding equipment status, repair needs, and potential improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and precision agriculture technology.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computerized equipment systems.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions on equipment repairs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and machinery, work in outdoor conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with brands such as Case IH, Claas, or similar.
  • Knowledge of precision farming tools (GPS, auto-steer systems, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot software and electronic controls on modern machinery.
