Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is located outside. We are close to San Diego Bay which offers a nice breeze and mild temperature.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently have 24 main shop technicians and 6 express technicians. We have 10 very experienced Service Advisors.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our shop is open from: 7:00am-6:00pm Monday-Saturday Closed Sunday. Our team members work a usual 8-hour shift.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All Dalton FasTrack Express Technicians are provided the necessary tools for the day. Tools will be provided for special campaigns, scan tools, brake lathe, wheel balancer, alignment rack, press, tire changer, tech streams, and special service tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our facility has a break room for our employees close to the service department. We provide cold water and hot coffee/tea. We also have vending machines (drink & snacks), and a refrigerator for use as well.

What is your parts ordering process?

We have one the largest Toyota parts inventory in Southern California. We have next day and same day parts delivery from our depot and we have 4 Toyota Certified Parts Counter Personnel serving the technicians. We rank in the top 5 in the Los Angeles region for Parts Sales.

What is your policy on side work?

We do not allow side work within our shop.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We facilitate in the continued training of all our employees. For technicians, it varies by position. We encourage and pay for the cost of our Line Techs Toyota classes, along with ASE certifications.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Dalton Motors Group continues to expand by adding additional vehicle brands creating great growth opportunities for those willing to excel. For Dalton FasTrack Express Technicians the goal is usually to develop into a Line Tech and progress to a Master Diagnostic Technician. Dalton Motors can help plan your career path.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Each technician has a goal set by their supervisor. These are reviewed weekly with their immediate manager and any needs of the technician are also addressed.

What type of safety training is required?

Monthly safety meetings. On-line safety training at hire.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a dedicated shop foreman who work along new hires and apprentice technicians. He provides them the right tools and skills to be able to move up into the main shop. You also have group leaders to provide you guidance when needed.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We work with our local colleges for apprenticeships.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Our goal is to get move involved with our local High Schools to build an apprenticeship program.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Dalton Motors plan to continue to grow our franchises which will lead to more technician careers in our community.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our in-person interviews are extremely important to us. We love to get to know the people that are applying here first. We want to know their story, who they are, what their goals are, and how we can help them achieve them. Then, we review the position they are applying for with the applicant to see if it is a good fit for both the applicant and the dealership. Its multi-interview process with several Managers from our team.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform background checks, drug screening, and a physical on all applicants once a conditional offer of employment has been given and accepted.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not. This type of information is discussed during the in-person interview itself.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

We usually have made our decisions within 24hrs on who will be joining our team. It's highly unlikely we wait any longer. We value our applicants' time and efforts.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Once an application is submitted we move speedily and have an interview with the decision within 24 of the final interview.

Every application is thoroughly assessed and discussed with team members. We want to maintain a culture of enthusiasm and enjoyment. We feel that Dalton Toyota is a great environment and our hiring process is key to bringing on talented people.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $37,000.00 - $45,000.00/year

D and Lube Technicians. Pay has variables based on technicians training, certifications, experience and proficiency.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $75,000.00 - $120,000.00/year

Must have Master Technician or Master Diagnostic Technician Status.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $62,000.00 - $70,000.00/year

Pay has variables based on technicians training, certifications, experience and proficiency.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00/year

Pay has variables based on technicians training, certifications, experience and proficiency.

Service Advisor Pay Range: $72,000.00 - $150,000.00/year

Commission based pay structure including customer satisfaction.
